Welcome!
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Science Olympiad team
Est. 2004
Coaches: Mr. Guy Savastano, Head Coach; Mr. Chris Poulos & Mrs. Tammy Eicher, Asst. Coaches
2012-2013 Season: 30 students participating, representing all grades 9-12.
As a club at NDCL, we strive to live the truth in love, and to achieve excellence in our community by working to learn more about the world around us, and how it functions. We take pride in our accomplishments and look forward to growing as a team this season.
Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of team events that students prepare for during the year. The events are balanced between biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, and technology. Events are also balanced between hands-on application of science and knowledge of science facts. The emphasis is on learning, participation, interaction, having fun, and developing team spirit.
Just because NDCL's Science Olympiad team focuses on science education, don't think that joining will equate to the stress of taking another class! Though we learn many things and work hard to excel in our events, we have a lot of fun in the process! Students of all grade levels, interests, and academic abilities are welcome. Be sure to pay us a visit in Room 215 on Thursdays at 3pm! You'll be amazed at how quickly we grow on you.

What is Science Olympiad?Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. These goals are accomplished through classroom activities, research, training workshops and the encouragement of intramural, district, regional, state and national tournaments. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications. In addition, during the day there are open house activities that consist of science and mathematics demonstrations, activities and career counseling sessions conducted by professors and scientists at the host institution occurring concurrently with the events.
